UNDERSTANDING MIDJOURNEY

This design experiment began with me trying to understand MidJourney.

Understanding what interface design styles they like. Understanding what they value. And understanding where they want to go.

By immersing myself in the platform, analyzing its design choices, and exploring how it evolves, I identified five key principles that guided my approach:

  • Responsiveness & Modularity

    • MidJourney prioritizes a responsive and modular design, ensuring adaptability across different devices.

  • Flexibility

    • The interface is designed to be flexible and adaptive, allowing for expansion as new features and functionalities are introduced.

  • Minimalism

    • MidJourney embraces a clean, minimalistic design that promotes usability without unnecessary distractions.

  • Professionalism

    • Beyond being an experimental AI tool, MidJourney positions itself as a professional-grade platform for artists and designers.

  • Community

    • A strong community-driven aspect is included in MidJourney’s design, promoting collaboration and creativity among artists.

PROBLEM ASSUMPTION

After using MidJourney for several months, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of how it works best and how people interact with it.

One key insight I’ve noticed is that, like many advanced creative tools, MidJourney has an exponential learning curve.

While experienced individuals can navigate it efficiently, newcomers often struggle to get started. Looking at the market, it’s clear that many people are still unfamiliar with the platform.

The main challenge I wanted to address with this concept is the lack of guided interaction. Currently, the interaction flow isn’t structured in a way that supports beginners, leading to ineffective workflows and frustration.

With this in mind, my primary goal for this concept was to improve human interaction guidance within the prompt editor throughout the creative process, making MidJourney more intuitive and accessible for all.

RESEARCH AND INSPIRATION

To gain a broader understanding of AI tools and design approaches in the market, I researched and documented various similar platforms.

Additionally, I explored accessibility standards and best practices in interface design to ensure a more inclusive and interaction friendly experience. This research helped me understand design principles and find ways to improve usability while staying true to MidJourney’s style and functionality.
